The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has officially opened the latest edition of the CAF B Refresher Coaching Course, taking place in Harare from 3 to 7 November 2025. The programme is part of ZIFA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening coaching capacity nationwide and ensuring that local coaches stay abreast of evolving football methodologies and global trends.
The course is exclusively for current holders of the CAF B Licence, providing an opportunity for them to refresh and update their knowledge in line with the latest CAF standards. As the game continues to evolve, the refresher course is designed to help experienced coaches reconnect with modern tactical, technical and player development approaches, ensuring that their qualifications remain relevant and impactful in today’s football environment.

The week-long course blends theory and practical work under the guidance of ZIFA Head of Technical, Dominique Niyonzima, who is facilitating the programme. In addition, the refresher serves as a platform for mentoring and assessment for coach educators Wilson Mutekede, Tafadzwa Mashiri, Sithethelelwe Sibanda and Dr Joseph Sibindi, who will be assisting Niyonzima throughout the week as part of their own professional development.
The opening ceremony was held on Monday morning at the ZIFA Village in Mt Hampden, marking the official start of an intensive week of learning and exchange. Further fieldwork and classroom activities scheduled throughout the week at various training venues. The course will conclude on Friday with final assessments and a closing session.

The CAF B Licence remains a key stage in the professional coaching pathway, equipping participants with essential skills in training design, tactical preparation, match analysis and player management. The refresher component ensures that certified coaches continue to deliver training sessions and player development programmes that reflect current international standards.
Speaking during the opening session, ZIFA Head of Technical, Dominique Niyonzima, emphasised the value of continuous learning and adaptation within the coaching community: “Football is constantly evolving, and as coaches, we must evolve with it. This refresher course gives our coaches the opportunity to realign with new developments in the game, exchange ideas and continue learning. By ensuring that even those who trained in the past are updated and equipped with the latest knowledge, we are strengthening the overall quality of coaching in Zimbabwe and preparing our coaches to contribute effectively to player and team development.”

ZIFA continues to prioritise technical education and capacity building as fundamental pillars of football development in Zimbabwe. Through initiatives such as the CAF B Refresher Course, the association seeks to maintain a strong network of qualified coaches who can implement best practices across all levels of the game. Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive their updated CAF B certification, reaffirming ZIFA’s commitment to professionalism, continuous improvement and the growth of Zimbabwean football.
