The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is pleased to note that the draw for the African qualifying phase of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games Women’s Football Tournament will be conducted today, Wednesday, 29 April 2026, at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

The draw will be streamed live on CAF TV from 15h00 Cairo time, which is 14h00 Zimbabwean time.

Zimbabwe is among 35 African nations that will take part in the qualifying campaign, as the Mighty Warriors prepare to discover their pathway towards qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The participating teams are Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The African qualifying campaign will be played over five rounds, with only two teams earning the right to represent the continent at the Olympic Games Women’s Football Tournament, scheduled for 11 to 29 July 2028 in Los Angeles, United States of America.

For Zimbabwe, the qualifiers represent another important opportunity to continue strengthening women’s football, widen the competitive platform for the Mighty Warriors, and inspire the next generation of female footballers across the country.

ZIFA Vice President and Chairperson of the ZIFA Women’s Football Committee, Loveness Mukura, said the Association views the qualifiers as part of the broader growth journey of the women’s game in Zimbabwe.

“The Olympic qualifying campaign is an important moment for Zimbabwean women’s football. It gives our players, coaches and technical structures a clear international target and reinforces the work we are doing to build a stronger, more competitive women’s game from grassroots to the senior national team,” said Mukura.

“As ZIFA, we are committed to giving the Mighty Warriors the support and visibility they deserve. Competing for a place at the Olympic Games is a major challenge, but it is also an opportunity for Zimbabwe to show ambition, belief and progress on the continental stage.”

Zimbabwe will await the outcome of the draw as preparations continue towards a new qualification journey for the Mighty Warriors.
