The Warriors took an important step in their preparations for the Unity Cup after holding their first full training session in Birmingham on Thursday morning.
With the early arrivals now assembled in camp, Zimbabwe’s build-up to the London tournament moved onto the training ground under the guidance of Head Coach Kaitano Tembo, who oversaw a lively and purposeful opening session.

There was clear intensity and focus throughout the workout as the technical team began laying the foundation for the days ahead. The session also provided an early opportunity for the squad to start building rhythm and cohesion ahead of the competition.
The Unity Cup has sparked significant interest among Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom, with supporters already turning out in encouraging numbers to welcome the team since its arrival.

Speaking after training, Tembo expressed satisfaction with the application shown by the players during the opening session. “We had a good first session,” said Tembo. “The energy and commitment from the players was very positive. You can see that the boys are excited to be here and excited to represent Zimbabwe.” The Warriors coach emphasised the importance of maximising every day in camp as the squad sharpens up for the tournament. “These are important days for us as a team. We want to prepare well, work hard and make sure we are ready competitively. Every training session matters and the players understand the responsibility that comes with wearing the national jersey.”

Tembo also paid tribute to the Zimbabwean community in the UK for the warm reception afforded to the squad. “The support has been excellent so far. The players appreciate it and it gives the team extra motivation. We want to make the nation proud.”
Among the players attracting attention in camp is Marshall Munetsi, whose arrival has added further experience and leadership to the squad. Munetsi said he was delighted to once again join the Warriors setup and is eager to contribute during the tournament. “I’m looking forward to the games and representing my country,” said Munetsi. “It is always an honour to wear the Zimbabwe jersey and I’m excited to be back with the boys.”

The midfielder also acknowledged the significance of playing in front of Zimbabwean supporters in the diaspora. “We know how much these matches mean to the fans, especially Zimbabweans here in the UK. We appreciate their support and we want to give them something to be proud of.”
The Warriors will remain in Birmingham for the next phase of their preparations before travelling to London ahead of the tournament. With camp now fully underway, anticipation continues to build around Zimbabwe’s Unity Cup campaign.
