The Zimbabwe Football Association’s ongoing investment in coach education continues to gather momentum, with the CAF B Coaching Course currently underway at ZIFA Village in Harare.
The course has now entered its second module of a five-module programme, marking another important step in ZIFA’s broader effort to strengthen technical development and raise coaching standards across the country.
The CAF B Licence is a key component of the Association’s coach education pathway and is designed to equip coaches with advanced technical, tactical, physical and organisational knowledge required to operate at a higher level of the game. Through this programme, ZIFA aims to build a stronger pool of qualified coaches who can contribute meaningfully to club football, youth development, women’s football and national team structures.

ZIFA Technical Director Dominique Niyonzima said the ongoing course reflects the Association’s commitment to creating a structured and credible coaching development system. “This CAF B course is very important for the future of football development in Zimbabwe,” Niyonzima said. “We are now in the second module, and the coaches are progressing well. Our objective is to ensure that coach education becomes consistent, properly structured and aligned to CAF requirements.”
The course is also taking place at a time when ZIFA is working towards full compliance with the CAF Coaching Convention. As part of that process, CAF is required to conduct an inspection to assess whether the Association meets the necessary standards and criteria to deliver coaching courses in line with continental requirements. CAF Assessor Honour Janza from Zambia has been in Harare since Monday afternoon as part of this inspection process. His visit is expected to review ZIFA’s coach education structures, facilities, technical systems and general readiness in relation to the CAF Coaching Convention.

Today, Janza met with ZIFA General Secretary Yvonne Manwa and members of the ZIFA Technical Department at ZIFA Village. The engagement formed part of the ongoing assessment of ZIFA’s technical development framework and its alignment with CAF standards. General Secretary Yvonne Manwa said ZIFA is fully committed to meeting the required benchmarks and ensuring that coach education becomes one of the cornerstones of football development in Zimbabwe. “As an Association, we understand that the quality of football development is closely linked to the quality of coaches we produce,” Manwa said. “Compliance with the CAF Coaching Convention is therefore a priority for us, not only as a regulatory requirement, but as part of our responsibility to build a stronger and more sustainable football system.”
She added that ZIFA will continue working closely with CAF to strengthen its technical programmes and ensure that Zimbabwean coaches receive training that meets recognised continental standards.
The CAF B course forms part of a broader technical development agenda being pursued by ZIFA, which includes improving coaching pathways, strengthening grassroots and youth football structures, and ensuring that qualified personnel are deployed across all levels of the game. With the second module now underway and the CAF inspection process in motion, ZIFA believes the country is taking another important step towards building a modern, credible and sustainable coach education system.
