The stage is set for another milestone in Zimbabwean football as the ZIFA Munhumutapa Challenge Cup Grand Draw takes centre stage today in Harare, bringing together football stakeholders, sponsors, club representatives and members of the media for a prestigious occasion that will officially unveil the Round of 32 fixtures in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
The glittering event marks the next chapter of a competition that has reignited the spirit of knockout football across the country. After months of action stretching from grassroots football to regional leagues, more than 450 men’s and women’s teams have battled through the preliminary rounds in pursuit of a place among the final 32.
Premier League clubs now enter the competition for the first time, setting the stage for exciting encounters against qualifiers from Division One, Division Two and regional competitions. The women’s draw will likewise bring together the country’s top-flight clubs and regional qualifiers, highlighting the continued growth and inclusivity of women’s football in Zimbabwe.
Football fans across the country will be able to follow the proceedings live, with the Grand Draw set to be broadcast on ZBC and livestreamed on the ZIFA YouTube channel, ensuring supporters everywhere can witness the unveiling of the eagerly anticipated fixtures.
ZIFA Executive Committee member responsible for Competitions, Professor Thomas Marambanyika, said all preparations had been completed ahead of the event and expressed confidence that the Grand Draw would be a fitting celebration of the competition’s remarkable journey so far.
“We are fully prepared for what promises to be a memorable occasion. The response to this year’s Munhumutapa Challenge Cup has exceeded expectations, with more than 450 men’s and women’s teams participating from every corner of Zimbabwe. That level of participation demonstrates the strength, passion and unity of our football community,” said Prof. Marambanyika.
“We are excited to welcome our clubs, partners, sponsors, stakeholders and the media as we conduct a transparent draw that ushers in what promises to be a thrilling Round of 32. We also encourage supporters across the country to join us through the live broadcast as we continue celebrating this historic competition.”
