CAF D Licence Coaching Course Kicks Off in Harare

The CAF D Licence Coaching Course is underway at Oriel Boys High School in Harare, marking an important milestone in Zimbabwe’s efforts to elevate football development from the ground up. The 10-day programme has attracted aspiring coaches from across the capital, many of whom are taking their first formal step on the CAF coaching pathway.

The course is being facilitated by ZIFA Head of Technical, Dominique Niyonzima, who highlighted the importance of investing in coaching education at grassroots level.

“The CAF D Licence is more than an introductory qualification – it is the foundation of our entire coaching ecosystem,” Niyonzima said. “We are empowering these coaches with essential knowledge on training methodology, player development, and football principles. Strong coaches produce strong players, and that is how we build the future of Zimbabwean football.”

Among the participants is former Soccer Star of the Year and current Golden Eagles assistant coach, Tawanda Muparati, who shared his enthusiasm for continuous learning.

“This first day has already been enriching,” said Muparati. “Even with years of playing experience and now coaching, there’s always room to grow. The concepts we are covering, especially around structuring sessions and understanding youth development, are crucial. I’m grateful for this opportunity and eager to apply what we learn to help develop better players.”

As the course progresses, ZIFA remains committed to enhancing coaching standards nationwide and preparing a new generation of qualified coaches who will shape the future of the local game.
