Magwizi Joins Global Football Leaders at FIFA Executive Football Summit in Miami

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President, Nqobile Magwizi, was among football leaders from across the world who attended the FIFA Executive Football Summit held in Miami, United States, as the global governing body continued to shape the future direction of the game.The high-level summit brought together football administrators, development experts, commercial partners and industry leaders to discuss key issues affecting the growth and sustainability of football worldwide.

One of the major topics on the agenda was the FIFA Forward 4.0 programme, under which member associations are set to receive increased funding of US$2.5 million annually. The enhanced investment is aimed at accelerating football development, infrastructure improvement, governance enhancement and capacity building across FIFA’s 211 member associations.

The summit also featured extensive discussions on football development, with presentations delivered by FIFA Chief of Global Football Development, Arsène Wenger, and FIFA Chief Football Officer, Jill Ellis. The two football leaders shared insights on talent development pathways, elite player performance, youth football structures and strategies designed to strengthen football ecosystems around the world.

Commercial innovation and digital transformation were also key themes, with global sports broadcaster presenting on the ongoing integration of FIFA+ into its platform. The development is expected to expand access to football content globally while creating new opportunities for fan engagement and commercial growth. Participants further benefited from valuable insights outside football through a presentation by Mark Tatum. Drawing on the success of the National Basketball Association, Tatum shared lessons on sports commercialisation, fan engagement, innovation, global expansion and the importance of building sustainable sporting brands.

Speaking after the summit, Magwizi said the gathering provided valuable knowledge and strategic direction that will support the continued growth of football in Zimbabwe. “The FIFA Executive Football Summit offered an excellent platform to engage with global football leaders, exchange ideas and learn from some of the best minds in sport. The discussions around football development, innovation, commercial growth and governance are highly relevant to our vision for Zimbabwean football,” said Magwizi. “The enhanced FIFA Forward funding and the insights shared by FIFA, DAZN and the NBA leadership present exciting opportunities for member associations. We remain committed to applying these lessons as we continue to strengthen football structures, develop talent and create sustainable growth for the game in Zimbabwe.”

The summit forms part of FIFA’s ongoing efforts to support member associations through knowledge-sharing, collaboration and strategic investment, ensuring football continues to grow both on and off the pitch across all regions of the world.
