The Zimbabwe Senior Men’s National Team has officially begun its Unity Cup preparations after local and South Africa-based players arrived in Birmingham, England, ahead of the highly anticipated tournament in London.

The Warriors have established their initial training base in the Midlands, where they will continue preparations before departing for London on 24 May for the four-nation competition that has generated excitement among Zimbabweans in the diaspora and football supporters back home.

A number of the Warriors’ international players have also already linked up with the squad in Birmingham as the team steadily takes shape ahead of the opening fixture.

Players who have reported for camp so far include captain Marvelous Nakamba, Marshall Munetsi, Tawanda Chirewa, Munashe Garananga, Jonah Fabisch, Marley Tavaziva, Washington Navaya, Future Sibanda, Aboubakar Moffat, Mongameli Tshuma, Corbin Mthunzi, Junior Zindoga and Isheanesu Mauchi.

The squad held a gym session shortly after arrival as players began shaking off travel fatigue and easing into camp life. Full training sessions are expected to begin in earnest today as preparations intensify for the tournament.

The Unity Cup presents another important opportunity for Zimbabwe to continue building momentum following recent positive performances, while also strengthening the bond between the national team and the Zimbabwean community in the United Kingdom.

Warriors Head Coach Kaitano Tembo expressed satisfaction with the early atmosphere in camp and the commitment shown by the players who have already arrived.

“We are happy with how camp has started. The players who have reported are in good spirits and eager to get to work. The focus now is on preparing well, building cohesion and ensuring we are ready to represent Zimbabwe positively at the Unity Cup,” said Tembo.

The Warriors also received a warm welcome upon arrival in Birmingham, with members of the Zimbabwean community turning out at the airport to greet the team.

ZIFA Head of Marketing Mike Madoda paid tribute to the supporters for the reception and also thanked Diaspora Insurance for its support and hospitality in Birmingham.

“We would like to sincerely thank Diaspora Insurance for hosting and supporting the Warriors during their stay in Birmingham. Their contribution reflects the growing spirit of partnership and patriotism around the national team,” said Madoda.

“We are equally grateful to the fans who came to welcome the team at the airport. Moments like these mean a lot to the players and technical team. The Warriors belong to the people, and seeing Zimbabweans rally behind the team here in the United Kingdom is truly special.”

The Warriors are expected to continue receiving players over the coming days as the full squad assembles ahead of the team’s departure for London.

Zimbabwe’s participation in the Unity Cup is also expected to provide an important platform for engagement with the diaspora community, while further strengthening the Warriors’ preparations for upcoming international assignments.

With camp now underway in Birmingham, excitement continues to build as the Warriors begin their road to the Unity Cup.
