The CAF Secretariat has pledged to work with the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to strengthen matchday safety and security, supporting the Association’s efforts to deliver safer, better organised football events.
The commitment followed a meeting between ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu and his team on the sidelines of the CAF Strategy Session in Cape Verde.
The engagement provides an opportunity for ZIFA to draw on continental expertise while working with local stakeholders to improve stadium operations and build supporter confidence.
“Supporters deserve a safe and enjoyable football experience. We welcome CAF’s commitment to work with us as we strengthen our preparations and make every matchday better for everyone,” Magwizi said.
The discussions come as ZIFA addresses safety concerns following the September fixture between Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo at the National Sports Stadium, which led to CAF imposing spectator restrictions. The focus is now on practical improvements that support the safe and orderly staging of matches.
ZIFA is strengthening matchday arrangements through improved access control, clearer communication with supporters and closer coordination between organisers, stadium management, security personnel and emergency services.
Measures being put in place include thorough steward briefings, reliable ticket verification and clearly marked entry points to support smoother stadium access. The Association is also prioritising timely information on tickets, designated gates and arrival arrangements to help supporters plan their visit and enjoy a safe, orderly matchday experience.
CAF’s support offers a valuable foundation for sharing knowledge, reviewing procedures and strengthening the systems behind successful football events.
For ZIFA, the engagement is a positive step towards a consistent matchday experience that places supporters’ welfare at its centre. Through continued cooperation with CAF and domestic stakeholders, the Association aims to create an environment where fans can enjoy the game and back their teams with confidence.
