ZIFA Hails Grassroots Empowerment at Seke 7 Primary Handover Ceremony

Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe – 24 October 2025

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has commended the spirit of community empowerment and grassroots development demonstrated during the official handover of a borehole facility and a full set of football kits at Seke 7 Primary School in Chitungwiza. The event, which was graced by various stakeholders, including government officials, school authorities, current Kwekwe United player Kenneth Pasuwa, and community leaders, saw Mr. Jacob Chavungama representing the ZIFA President, Mr. Nqobile Magwizi, who described the occasion as “a reflection of what football development truly means at the community level.”

The initiative was spearheaded by Mr. Frank Nematombo, a former student of Seke 7 Primary and ex-Darryn T Football Club player. In a moving act of gratitude, he returned to his roots to donate both the borehole facility, to ensure reliable access to clean water, and a complete football kit for the school’s young players.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Nematombo emphasized the importance of investing in one’s foundation, noting that “the borehole symbolizes the source of life and nourishment, while the football kits represent a spark of hope and ambition for the next generation.”

The gesture, which seamlessly merges sport and social development, was lauded by the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, represented by Mr. Chikono, who described the donation as a “model example of how sport can drive community upliftment.”

Representing the ZIFA President, Mr. Chavungama conveyed ZIFA’s appreciation for the initiative, underscoring that football excellence at national and international levels begins in schools and communities such as Seke 7 Primary.

“Our President, Mr. Nqobile Magwizi, has been clear that ZIFA’s heartbeat lies in development. Every national player starts somewhere – on a dusty school pitch, guided by passion and community. This event aligns perfectly with our vision to identify, nurture, and support talent from the grassroots,” said Chavungama.

He further pledged ZIFA’s support for ongoing collaborations with schools, coaches, and local leaders to establish sustainable football pathways that connect junior football to provincial and national structures.

Beyond the football kits, the borehole donation carries a significant impact for the school and the surrounding community. It addresses longstanding challenges of water scarcity, improving sanitation, and the maintenance of the football pitch, which is a crucial aspect for sustaining daily training and matches.

Seke 7 Primary’s Head, Mr. Marozva, expressed gratitude on behalf of the learners and staff, noting that the borehole and football kits had “brought joy, pride, and renewed hope to the school community.”

Local Councilor Mukwashi echoed similar sentiments, applauding the project’s dual benefit in promoting both education and health, while reinforcing the idea that sport can serve as a vehicle for broader social progress.

The handover at Seke 7 Primary is more than an isolated act of goodwill, it is a manifestation of ZIFA’s broader developmental mission under President Magwizi’s administration. Through initiatives that integrate community empowerment, talent nurturing, and infrastructure support, ZIFA continues to strengthen the foundation of Zimbabwean football.

As the ceremony closed with students proudly wearing their new kits, the message was clear that football development begins with empowering young dreamers at the grassroots level.
