Zimbabwe has officially stepped onto the global esports stage after confirming its participation in the upcoming FIFAe World Cup. The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is proud to announce that the nation will compete in the Console, Mobile and Rocket League categories, marking an exciting new chapter for local gamers and the wider football community.

The announcement signals more than participation – it represents opportunity. For the first time under this structure, Zimbabwean gamers will have a clear pathway to represent their country on an officially recognised FIFAe platform.

ZIFA Competitions & Projects Manager Kudzai Chitima described the development as a significant milestone for the Association’s competitions portfolio. “This is a progressive step for Zimbabwean football. Esports is now a recognised extension of the global game, and our participation ensures that Zimbabwean gamers are not left behind. We are creating a transparent and competitive pathway to select the very best to represent the nation,” said Chitima.

ZIFA will soon announce dates and venues for national trials to select Team Zimbabwe in both categories. The trials are expected to attract top talent from across the country, as gamers compete for the honour of wearing the national badge.

ZIFA Head of Marketing, Media & Communications Mike Madoda emphasised the broader vision behind the move. “This is about embracing the future of football. The modern game lives both on the pitch and in the digital space. We want young Zimbabweans to see that their passion for gaming can translate into national representation. This is innovation, inclusion and national pride coming together,” said Madoda.

Further details on the trial process will be communicated in due course as Zimbabwe prepares to take its place on the FIFAe World Cup stage.
