The CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals have officially burst into life in Harare, with Gateway High School setting the stage for a vibrant celebration of youth football across the continent.
The tournament brings together some of Africa’s brightest young talents, with both boys’ and girls’ teams representing their nations in a week-long showcase of skill, passion and promise.
In the girls’ competition, Group A features hosts Zimbabwe alongside Morocco, Zambia and DR Congo. Group B sees Ghana, Guinea, Tanzania and Burkina Faso battling for a place in the knockout stages.

On the boys’ side, Zimbabwe headline Group A together with Uganda, Morocco and DR Congo, while Group B includes Tanzania, Zambia, Senegal and Benin.

The opening day was marked by energy, colour and a strong sense of continental unity, as teams arrived ready to compete and represent their countries with pride. Beyond the results, the tournament serves as a powerful platform for development, providing young players with exposure, experience and an opportunity to dream bigger.
ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi welcomed the start of the tournament, highlighting its significance for both Zimbabwean football and the wider African game.

“This is a proud moment for Zimbabwe,” said Magwizi. “To host the CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals is not only an honour, but a clear statement of our commitment to developing the game from the grassroots. These young players represent the future of African football, and we are delighted to provide them with a platform to showcase their talent, build friendships and grow within the game.”
With matches set to continue over the coming days, Harare now becomes the heartbeat of African schools football, as the continent’s next generation takes centre stage.
