Zimbabwe’s commitment to raising coaching standards received a significant boost this week as four of the country’s leading football minds travelled to Kigali, Rwanda, for the final assessment stage of the FIFA Coach Educators Programme.

Dr Joseph Sibindi, Wilson Mtekede, Sithethelelwe Sibanda and Tafadzwa Mashiri represented Zimbabwe at the programme, which forms part of FIFA’s global effort to strengthen coach education structures within Member Associations.

The assessment in Kigali marks the final step toward recognition as FIFA Coach Educators, a role that carries the responsibility of shaping and mentoring the next generation of football coaches within the national development pathway.

For Zimbabwean football, the presence of four candidates at this level signals a growing investment in technical development and knowledge transfer across the game. Coach educators occupy a critical position in the football ecosystem. Beyond training coaches, they help design learning environments, share modern football methodologies and ensure that coaching standards align with global best practice. Their work ultimately influences how the game is taught at every level, from grassroots football to the elite professional game.

The development also comes at an important time for Zimbabwean football, as the Zimbabwe Football Association continues to prioritise coach education as a cornerstone of its long term growth strategy. By investing in qualified coach educators, the Association is ensuring that local coaches have access to structured learning, mentorship and internationally aligned training programmes.

Should the quartet complete the programme successfully, Zimbabwe will further enhance its ability to deliver high quality coaching courses and build a sustainable pipeline of technically proficient coaches across the country.
