The Zimbabwe Football Association today convened its Owning Our Competitions Workshop at ZIFA Village, bringing together key football stakeholders for an important day of engagement, alignment and planning around some of the game’s most significant development platforms.
The workshop focuses on three major pillars of competition development: the Talent Development Scheme, the BancABC Roots Impact Programme and the ZIFA Munhumutapa Challenge Cup. Designed to strengthen understanding and improve coordination, the session is providing stakeholders with a shared platform to engage on competition structures, formats, regulations and registration processes.
Opening the workshop, ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi said the gathering reflects the Association’s commitment to building football on a stronger and more sustainable foundation. “This workshop is about ownership, clarity and collective purpose,” said Magwizi. “If we are to grow the game meaningfully, we must ensure that our stakeholders are aligned, informed and fully invested in the systems we are putting in place.”

Following the opening remarks, ZIFA Acting General Secretary Norman Gwangwadza is leading discussions on the description of the programmes, helping participants appreciate the vision and practical framework behind each competition. Gwangwadza said the workshop is an important step in ensuring that implementation is supported by shared understanding across the football family. “These competitions are not just events on a calendar,” said Gwangwadza. “They are strategic platforms for player development, community participation and the long-term growth of Zimbabwean football. It is vital that everyone involved understands both the purpose and the process.”

The programme also includes sessions on competition formats, rules and regulations, registration processes and plenary discussions, allowing for broader interaction and feedback from participants. Through initiatives such as this, the Association is reinforcing its commitment to professionalisation, stakeholder collaboration and the steady rebuilding of Zimbabwean football from the grassroots upwards.
