Zimbabwe produced a courageous and disciplined performance in Doha, overturning an early setback to beat Qatar 2–1 in a match that showcased a team on the rise. Qatar struck inside the first five minutes, but the Warriors refused to fold, gradually asserting themselves.
Their response came midway through the half when Godknows Murwira delivered a pinpoint corner and Munashe Garananga powered home a commanding header to level the scores. At the break, Coach Marian “Mario” Marinica made a decisive change, bringing on Prosper Padera to tighten the midfield and disrupt Qatar’s rhythm.

The shift paid off. Substitute Bill Antonio provided the moment of brilliance, racing through to bury the winner and silence the home fans. Backed by a vibrant Zimbabwean crowd singing throughout the night, the Warriors defended their lead with grit and clarity.

After the match, Marinica said, “What we saw today is just the beginning. The second half against Algeria already showed our upward trajectory, and tonight confirmed it.”
A statement win, a growing identity that Zimbabwe’s revival is no longer a theory, but a reality.
